Monday: open to members - 10 am - 1 pm
Tuesday: closed to all
Wednesday to Sunday: open to all - 9 am - 4 pm
* Please note: Events, holidays, and school breaks may impact these hours. Additionally, CMTM offers professional, family-friendly theatre productions and afterschool experiences, which are ticketed separately from museum visits.

The Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine Afterschool Experiences are designed with the whole child in mind. From exploring the interconnection between Maine's aquatic species to creating a show as a theatre ensemble, these experiences foster collaboration, empathy, critical thinking, and self-awareness skills.
Upcoming Events
Science takes on a magical form as we make color-changing cookies, use dry ice to transform states of matter, and create fanciful treats like caldron cakes! For future magical making, we will compile our spellbinding snacks in a potions notebook.
This drop-off workshop series meets weekly on Tuesdays from 3:45 pm - 5:15 pm for 5 weeks from April 23 to May 21: 4/23, 4/30, 5/7, 5/14, 5/21.
On the first day of this theatre class, you and the squad of theatre makers will create a map of a fantasy world. You will decide what kind of beasts, monsters and creatures live in this fantasy world, and these beings will inspire your character. Over the course of the class, you will bring this world to life and develop the story of how it came to be and what will happen next.

Join the MakerSpace team for a hands-on class focused on a different artist each week. Children ages 2-5 & their caregivers will experiment with the mediums and styles of well-known and emerging artists.
Join us for the Science for Tots series! This is a weekly program designed for children ages 2-5 and their caregivers. Each week, experience a different activity based on the theme of the month. This month, we turn our eyes to the skies. Join us for hands-on space-themed activities, including exploring craters with rocks and playdough, painting new planets, and creating star constellation art. Registration Required.

There are so many kinds of maps all around us! Maps help us find our way home, discover treasure, and explore new places. Have you ever wanted to create your own world or capture a real place on paper? Whether it’s another planet, a magical Maine island, or an animal’s underground home, maps can help us travel to real & imaginary destinations.
Earth Week activities continue Wednesday, April 24, with featured Artist in Residence Conary Nicholas Howard-Rogers. Together, we will craft mini ecosystems in the MakerSpace and witness our ability to shape the environment firsthand.

Popular children’s author Mo Willems’ musical adaptation of his “Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale” premieres later this month at Maddy’s Theatre at the Children’s Museum and Theatre of Maine.
The musical is about toddler Trixie and her dad and their trip to the laundromat, where Trixie loses her treasured stuffed animal, Knuffle Bunny.

The 2023 Regional Awards honor regional productions, touring shows, and more which had their first performance between October 1, 2022 through September 30, 2023. This year the BroadwayWorld Regional Awards were bigger and better than ever, including over 100 cities across America, Canada, Central and South America, Europe, and Asia.

We’re Hiring! Join the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine as a Part-Time Exhibits Assistant, responsible for the daily care and operation of indoor and outdoor exhibits, including ball and water play areas. Exhibits Assistants are integral to the daily operations of the Museum & Theatre as they ensure the exhibits are on and ready for visitors, keep the exhibits running smoothly, ensure exhibits are safe and clean for visitors, and assist with mechanical and carpentry needs of the team.
